The Pudong Convent for the Retired Nuns of the Shanghai Diocese is home to 15 wonderful women who have devoted their lives to the Catholic Church.

The nuns are in their 70’s, 80’s and 90’s, and they continue to spend their days in service to the Church, primarily participating in daily Mass and prayer.

In youth, the days are short and the years are long.

In old age, the years are short and day’s long.
~ Pope Paul VI

They pray for many things: for continued growth of the church in China, the intentions and needs of the Chinese people, for their continued health and well-being, and for us, the parishioners of the International Parish.

Our mission is to maintain a strong relationship between the nuns and the Shanghai International Catholic community and provide support and resources where needed.

Twice a year, Caritas Shanghai arranges a shuttle from downtown Shanghai to the convent in Pudong, ferrying volunteers to share an afternoon with the sisters.
